Casting news is coming thick and fast in theatre land. Maureen Lipman is in the Chocolate Factory revival of A Little Night Music and Henry Goodman is playing opposite Juliet Stevenson for the Almeida revival of Duet For One. But by far the most eyebrow-raising news is that Old Vic artistic director Kevin Spacey is to give fellow Hollywood actor Richard Dreyfuss his first stage role in London since Mel Brooks fired him from The Producers. Dreyfuss will make his West End comeback in Complicit, a play by Joe Sutton in which Dreyfuss will play journalist Ben Kritzer who is hauled in front of America's Supreme Court Special Prosecutor. Kritzer's dilemma is whether to defend his belief in a free press or his family. The Close Encounters star can currently be seen playing Dick Cheney in W, Oliver Stone's movie about George Bush.
When Dreyfuss was recently complimented about his performance, his response left no doubt as to his opinion about Cheney. "You should see my Hitler," he said.
