Brighton and Hove Reform Synagogue observed Yom Hashoah with a service which included the lighting of six candles representing the six million dead. The service, led by Rabbi Charles Wallach, included survivors of the Holocaust.
Brighton and Hove Hebrew Congregation and Hove Hebrew Congregation held a joint service, led by Rabbi Vivian Silverman. Rabbi Silverman gave an address in which he quoted from a poem written by Primo Levi. Six candles were lit, three by survivors of the Holocaust.
Brighton and Hove Progressive Synagogue held a service led by Rabbi Elizabeth Sarah Tikvah, in which six candles were lit, three by older members who had lost family members in the Holocaust and three by young members of the shul. A special thought was dedicated to Henry Gellert, a member of the shul who died recently, and who had lost a wife and a child in the Shoah.
