Jewish Human Rights Watch has expressed “disappointment” with Cambridge University’s response to its complaint about anti-Israel activities on campus.

Cambridge University Palestine Society set up a replica military checkpoint in front of one of the university’s buildings last week as part of Israeli Apartheid Week activities – an international campaign of anti-Israel activism.

In response JHRW tweeted last week that it had sent a letter to the vice-chancellor of Cambridge University saying it was considering "appropriate legal remedies" over the presence of the "checkpoint" on the campus.

A JHRW director Robert Festenstein said it had been informed by the university told it would respond to the complaint within 14 days.

Mr Festenstein said: “I am disappointed they appear to be treating this with such casual disregard.”

A university spokesman told the JC that it would not comment on legal correspondence.

He added: “Permission was given to the Palestine Society to hold a one-day protest event on the Sidgwick Site which was carried out peacefully. Access to buildings was not restricted and anyone wishing to avoid the protest was able to go around it. The University respects the rights of societies and its members to peaceful protest.”
