Clive Sheldon KC, a former chairman of Masorti Judaism and of the New Israel Fund’s UK branch, has been appointed a High Court judge.

The New North London Synagogue member was called to the bar in 1991, took silk 20 years later and was made a deputy High Court judge five years ago.

Mr Justice Sheldon, 57, as he is now known, took up his new role at the beginning of the month.

He has previously chaired an inquiry set up by the Football Association into child sexual abuse.

He also successfully defended the Labour Party over a challenge to its eligibility rules on leadership elections.
