Inspectors have taken on board changes at Toras Vadass, an independent Charedi boys’ primary school in west Hendon, upgrading it to “requires improvement” from the “inadequate” ranking it received two years ago.
They said the school offered a suitable curriculum and a well-planned personal, social and health education.
Teachers’ “high expectations” of achievement were more fully realised in early reading and maths but pupils did not develop the same depth of knowledge in the wider curriculum, Ofsted said.
Pupils enjoyed participating in the school’s rewards scheme and appreciated learning about British values of tolerance and respect.
The school was marked “good” for the behaviour and attitude of pupils, and for their personal development.
Ofsted has phased out the award of single grades for overall performance for state schools, but not for the independent sector.
