A pioneer of inter-community friendship has been honoured at a ceremony at his Crumpsall home. Alan Ross, 63, who is too ill to receive the accolade in public, was founder chairman of Community Understanding, whose “festivals” brought together hundreds of people from across ethnic divides. Barbara Goldstone, president of the Jewish Representative Council, presented Mr Ross with a certificate marking some 35 years of communal work.
