Three nerdy youngsters — Troy Gentile, Nate Hartley and David Dorfman — are targeted by high-school bullies. In response, they hire homeless former soldier Drillbit (Owen Wilson) as their bodyguard. This pallid, cleaned-up riff on last year’s Superbad mostly misfires despite the presence of that movie’s producer, Judd Apatow, and Seth Rogen, who co-wrote the less than memorable screenplay with Kristofer Brown. The film is simply a formulaic Hollywood teen comedy whose trio of young heroes is ultimately unmemorable. Given Rogen’s and Apatow’s involvement, this is a distinct disappointment.
