MAL paid a fitting farewell tribute to its most distinguished cricketer, Melvyn Corin, who after more than four decades with the club, is making aliyah next week.

In a thrilling Twenty20 match in Finchley to mark his departure, the wicketkeeper-batsman skippered a veteran MAL XI to a last-ball win over a current MAL team.

After the game, MAL captain Gavriel Lebens presented his illustrious predecessor with a plaque celebrating his record in a career from 1967 to 2008.

His 16,421 runs included 16 centuries and 96 half-centuries, while he claimed 575 victims with the keeper’s gloves and another 96 with the ball. Corin also skippered the Team GB Maccabiah squad to a bronze in the 1989 Games and was manager of the team in 1993. He also led MAL on four club tours to Israel.
