Quickfire jokes from a trio of comedians

I went into this show with such high hopes.

Dan Antopolski won the Dave trophy for the funniest joke of the Fringe two years ago and he’s clearly talented, with great comic presence and seemingly few boundaries when in pursuit of an audience reaction. Sadly, my hopes were quickly shattered as those things weren’t on display in this show.

The Israeli-born comic was joined by two others for the sketch show, an hour of quickfire comedy and out-there scenes. There were a few fantastic moments, including a nugget about a children's menu and an absolute gem about being born gay and reading the Guardian.

Too many, however, were the sort you greet with a dry smile: witty, but not roll-on-the-floor funny. And far too much of the show was samey, with obvious gags about call centres, suicide and musicians interrupting a restaurant dinner.

As a trio, they worked well together and were clearly enjoying themselves. I wanted to like it. And I didn’t hate it.

Pleasance Courtyard until August 29

It just wasn’t quite as good as it should have been.
