Notebook has learned that the Royal Court's artistic director Dominic Cooke is considering staging Sir Arnold Wesker's classic play Chicken Soup with Barley in 2010. This is the first play of what became known as the Wesker Trilogy, and the one that in 1958 launched its author and his characters, the Communist East End Jewish Kahn family, into the vanguard of Britain's theatrical revolution. A revival at the Royal Court in London, which staged the work in 1958, is long overdue. Contracts have yet to be signed but intriguingly, when Notebook asked Sir Arnold to confirm the plans he said that Cooke was thinking of either a Royal Court or West End opening. According to Wesker, Samantha Spiro - currently rehearsing the role of Maria opposite Derek Jacobi's Malvolio for the Donmar's Twelfth Night - is up for the role of Sarah Kahn, and Anton Lesser has been linked with the role of Harry.
