An 11-year-old Southgate girl became the youngest participant in the five-year history of Norwood’s Waterside Walk when she completed 10 miles in Sunday’s fundraiser, which took in some spectacular scenery in Berkshire and Surrey.
Miriam Young said she had been keen to raise money for “a great cause. At the same time it keeps you healthy.” The Hasmonean pupil was among Norwood supporters from throughout London who took part.
The course covered the beauty spots of Windsor Great Park and Virginia Water with a 20-mile option for the fitter, or more enthisiastic. One arthritic participant walked with the aid of a stick.

More than £10,000 was raised for Norwood’s Challenges programme, whose head, Ian Tate, said it would help “children and families with learning disabilities, or coping with social difficulties”.
Future Challenges include bike rides and a climbing adventure in Argentina.
