Liberal youth movement LJY-Netzer is advancing its green credentials by asking members to offset carbon emissions on overseas trips by planting trees in Israel.
In partnership with JNF, LJY-Netzer on Tuesday launched Fly Green as part of its ongoing commitment to tikkun olam (repairing the world).
Movement director Victor Kaufman commented: “We are delighted to have 40 people coming on our Israel tour this year, but each effectively creates 1.94 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Through LJY-Netzer Fly Green, we are asking participants to pay £29.10, which will go towards planting five trees in Israel to offset these harmful emissions”. The trees will be planted in Neot Smadar in the Negev.
The movement’s ethical commitment extends to recycling waste from its events and buying Fair Trade products.
