SCiO, the first ever pocket-sized molecular scanner, can answer all these questions and more.
Developed by Israeli company Consumer Physics and financed in part by £1.9 million raised on crowdfunding website Kickstarter, the device can reveal the biological make-up of any object.
After a quick scan, the gadget - which cost £10.3 million to develop - sends its findings to your smartphone, instantly revealing the health of your tulips or what kind of wood made your furniture.
Dror Sharon, Consumer Physics co-founder and chief executive, said the potential applications for SCiO were "almost endless".
Mr Sharon, who has made the product available for pre-order at £169, said: "Until now molecular sensors were only used in labs, and were too big and too expensive for people to use.
"SCiO is an exploration tool and is for anyone who would like instant information about the things they interact with and consume."
