UK travellers to Israel will be required to self-isolate for 14 days under new rules set to go into effect on Friday.

The UK, which has seen a surge in cases and new local lockdowns, has been among 31 “green locations” exempted from a mandatory quarantine.

But its status will change to red later this week, joining some 185 countries - such as France, the United States and Brazil - facing the requirement.

Israel began easing its second lockdown on Sunday, which was introduced last month amid a spike in cases.

From Sunday, Israel’s day care centres and nurseries were allowed to reopen, as were nature reserves, beaches and parks.

A ban on household mixing and a travel limit of 1km from home were also lifted.

According to data from John Hopkins University, Israel has recorded a total of 303,109 confirmed cases and 2,209 deaths.
