The joint treasurers of the Council of Christians and Jews, Michael Colin and Ian Hayes, have left the organisation amid reported differences over fundraising.
In a statement, the organisation said that its chairman, the Right Reverend Nigel McCulloch, the Bishop of Manchester, is “putting in hand a radical regeneration of the way in which CCJ operates in accordance with its constitution.
“In particular, he is demanding tighter financial control, more effective budgeting and a higher level of sustainable funding.”
It said that he had accepted the resignation of the two treasurers and appointed a group headed by a trustee, Christopher Moran, “to put in the hand the necessary reforms”.
Mr Colin, who is based in Manchester, became treasurer little more than a year ago. He was unavailable for comment.
Another trustee, the Reverend Malcolm Weisman, said that there had been disagreements over “which is the best way to raise money, who to approach and how to do it”.
In its statement, the CCJ said it had raised £93,000 towards its recent appeal for £100,000 and donations were continuing to be received “daily”.
