Israeli tourists die in Chile after boat overturns

Two dead, 14 injured after incident on Serrano River

Two female Israeli tourists died when their boat overturned in a river in Southern Chile yesterday.

Four other Israelis were seriously injured and ten sustained minor injuries in the incident on the Serrano River in Torres Del Paine National Park. A crew member is also said to have died.

The women have been named as Galila Biton, 61, and Dina Porat, 71. The injured were evacuated to hospital. None of their injuries were said to be life threatening. 

The Israelis were on a three-week tour of South America also taking in Argentina and Brazil.

A spokesman for the tour company said it was liaising with the Israel embassy in Chile. "We are making sure each of the Israelis is receiving appropriate and good medical care."

Chilean authorities  have launched an investigation into the incident.
