Donald Trump told a Jewish journalist to “sit down” during a stormy press conference at the White House.

The US President spent 80 minutes railing against the media, “fake news” and challenges to his administration.

Among his exchanges with reporters was a clash with strictly Orthodox correspondent Jake Turx of Ami magazine, a religious right-wing publication in the US.

Mr Turx was attempting to ask Mr Trump about a rise in antisemitism following the election, and cited the bomb threats against Jewish community centres in the past month.

Mr Trump interrupted and said: “It’s not a simple question, not a fair question. Ok, sit down, I understand the rest of your question.

“So here’s the story folks, number one: I am the least antisemitic person that you’ve ever seen in your entire life.

“Number two: racism, the least racist person. In fact we did very well…”

At that point Mr Turx attempted to interrupt the president and Mr Trump responded: “Quiet, quiet, quiet.”

In an apparent reference to the antisemitism issue, Mr Trump said: “I hate the charge, I hate even the question because people who know me, you heard Netanyahu, Bibi, he said: ‘I’ve known Donald Trump for a long time’. Take that instead of having to get up and ask a very insulting question.”
