Old-fashioned honey cake

From October 8, 1937

Ingredients

Honey, 1/2 lb.
Flour, 4 lb.
Baking powder, 1 teaspoonful.
Brandy or rum, 2 tablespoonful
Citron peel, 1 oz.
Butter, 2 oz.
Almonds, 2 o/..
Grated lemon rind
Pinch of cloves.
Nutmeg.

Method

Chop the peel and almonds finely
Melt the honey and butter
Sieve the flour and baking powder, add a grate of nutmeg, pinch of cloves, and the
grated rind of half a lemon.
Stir these into the honey, add the almonds,peel, and brandy (or rum), and mix thoroughly.
Let it stand overnight, then roll out until an inch thick, cut into squares,-and bake on a greased tin in a hot oven.
