Roseane is from Joinville in Santa Catarina, Southern Brazil; Andrew has lived in Harrow, Colindale, Sydney, Edgware and Friern Barnet. A recent convert to Judaism, Roseane works in a jewellery shop in Brent Cross. Andrew is an estate agent based in Southgate and is assistant-manager of Maccabi League team Temple Fortune. The couple live in Welham Green, Herts

How they met
“At a friend’s party at the Oh! Bar in Camden,” Andrew recalls. “She chased me all night and in the end I relented.” Roseane remembers things somewhat differently. “I was interested in someone else, but he wouldn’t leave me alone.”

The proposal
Andrew had “all these fancy ideas of how to do it. But in the end I was so anxious I drove her to a jewellery store and said: ‘Choose your ring’.” Roseane had “an idea Andrew might be about to propose but I thought it might be on the weekend away we had the week before. But he did it on an average Tuesday afternoon while we were window shopping. Bizarre.”

The wedding
The ceremony was at Southgate and District Reform Synagogue with the reception at the Holiday Inn in Elstree. “Mum had organised dancers from Fiddler on the Roof,” Andrew reports, “and they danced with bottles on their head. It was amazing. The music had a South American flavour. The bands played a mixture of Jewish and Brazilian music, which was lovely.”

The honeymoon
“We are planning to go to South America later in the year to visit Roseane’s family,” Andrew explains. “We want to stop off in Rio and then journey south."
