Sarah grew up in Stamford Hill and took business management and education studies at the University of North London and Middlesex University. Gavin is from Southgate and studied property valuation and finance at City of London University. She is a community development worker for the Jewish Care/Nightingale South London project. He is director of a West Hampstead investment agency brokerage. Their home is in West Hampstead but they would like to move further out — preferably to live on a farms.
How they met
“Through family,” Sarah says. “My aunt and Gavin’s mum are friends and after years of persuasion, Gavin finally managed to pluck up the courage to phone – but he hung up when my dad Benny answered. We eventually went out for drinks in Islington, but unfortunately his car was trashed by vandals. I left days later for a summer in Israel and the relationship blossomed when I returned.”
The proposal
“In our favorite Sushi restaurant, Koi, in our favorite holiday destination – New York City,” Gavin recalls. “Sarah had a hunch as she found a ring of hers in my car which she later discovered I was using for sizing. However, the ring was the wrong size.”
The wedding
“We were married at the Park Plaza Riverbank in London,” the couple recount. “Rabbi Moshe Perez a family friend of Sarah’s from Nottingham, came down especially to marry us. The reception, dinner and dance were all at the hotel and it was a fantastic day.”
The honeymoon
“We are being cheeky and having three,” Sarah says. “The first was in Eilat for a week just after the wedding. The second was in honour of our dog Lennon — a long weekend for the three of us at Babington House in Somerset. The third is in South Africa later in the year — we both really love animals so going on safari will be a dream.”
