New Zealand theatre company Shaky Isles Theatre is staging a rehearsed reading of Tom McCrory’s play Faith at South London’s Pacific Theatre on May 2. The play is about a 15-year-old girl called Ruth who goes to New Zealand as a refugee following the Holocaust. Now aged 72, Ruth guides us on “a journey of faith, exploring what survives across the generations”. The reading coincides with the forthcoming Yom Hashoah, and producer Sandi Goodwin hopes JC readers can make it. Shame then that May 2 is a Friday. Notebook asked if it was possible to swap the date with one of the other readings. “No chance of changing date, unfortunately,” she replied. “Lesson for next time, huh!” Well, quite.
