A Shabbat triumph

A week on, the scale and scope of Shabbat UK seems, if anything, even more astonishing - 5,000 people under one roof making challah; another 5,000 elsewhere; and over 100,000 taking part either at shul or at one of more than 900 events in 50 communities.

When the Chief Rabbi first floated the idea around 18 months ago, it is unlikely that even he realised quite what he was unleashing - a celebration of Shabbat so joyous and imaginative that it has already established itself as one of the highlights of the British Jewish calendar.

Last year's weekend was spectacular. This year was even more so . The JC is proud to have been involved - and, like the rest of those who took part, we look forward with relish to next year's Shabbat UK.
