Tories should have no place for Aidan Burley

We will leave others to judge whether or not Aidan Burley misled the Conservative Party’s inquiry into his behaviour – although the evidence produced by the Mail on Sunday is damning. But even on his own terms, Mr Burley admits hiring the Nazi uniform worn at the now infamous stag do. If it did not cross his mind that, as an MP, he should not go around hiring Nazi uniforms for drunken stag dos, then he demonstrates such crass stupidity that it is difficult to imagine his constituency wishing to return him to Parliament again. But worse even than that, the video tape produced by the Mail on Sunday shows Mr Burley happy to sit by without demur while a toast was raised “to the ideology and thought process of the Third Reich.” That alone ought to disqualify him from any further role in public life. Had he a sense of decency he would resign. And had the Conservative Party a sense of propriety, it would strip him of the whip.
