Hindsight is an overused tool. But it does not require any benefit of hindsight to realise that the governors of King Solomon High School made a monumental and easily avoidable error in appointing Jo Shuter as head. Because even at the time of her appointment, the governors seemed almost alone in not foreseeing that the day would come when Ms Shooter would be suspended for her previous expenses abuse. She was the wrong appointment, as almost everyone could see – except the governors. It is therefore the governors who stand responsible for the total waste or time and money brought about by Ms Shuter’s appointment – and for the leaderless mess the school is now in. If they have any sense of propriety – let alone shame – they will resign en masse.
