Seventy years after VE Day, Whitehall will close on Sunday for the annual AJEX parade. There are few more important — and moving — occasions in the communal calendar, as we remember those who served their country in the defence of freedom. Too many gave their lives; too many are now no longer with us simply because of the passage of time. But Sunday’s parade is not only about remembrance, vital as that is. AJEX also exists to help those in need today, and to educate the next generation. We must never forget.
